West Plains Schools Receives 100% on Bus Safety Inspections
West Plains Schools recently received outstanding results on the annual school bus inspection program conducted on March 9th, by the Missouri State Highway Patrol. Overall, 100% of the 30 buses owned by the district were approved on the annual safety inspection.
These efforts earn West Plains School District the Total Fleet Excellence Award from the Highway Patrol and an Exemplary School Bus Maintenance Award from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE). These awards are provided to school districts with initial inspection rates of 90% or better and will be presented during the Missouri Association of Pupil Transportation (MAPT) Conference in July 2016.
Since 1998, West Plains Schools has received 16 Total Fleet Excellence Awards. 10 of the awards were for 90% or better and 6 awards were for 100% in bus safety.
“I just want to thank the Troop G Headquarters for helping us maintain such high standards in school safety and I also I want to the thank our mechanics, Alva Parks and Gust Steckman, for the outstanding job they do in keeping the buses safe for our kids. Thank you to the drivers for taking note of early morning pre-trip inspections and notifying the mechanics when a problem occurs.” said Robert Pekarek, Transportation Director for West Plains Schools.
Each year, the Missouri State Highway Patrol conducts the inspections statewide to ensure all buses meet school bus regulations and safety standards. Congratulations to our outstanding Transportation Department.
